Rest In Peace,
The world of standup comedy took a devastating hit this past month with the tragic loss of Erik Myers. He was one of those comedians who fame and fortune had eluded, but if you ever saw him perform on stage you'd assume he must certainly be on the verge of super stardom because you'd be hard pressed to imagine standup comedy could be written any better or performed more flawlessly. Erik's larger than life persona on stage clashed beautifully his honest, humble, and often self-deprecating comedy. Admittedly he could be reckless with his own life away from comedy, but no matter what was happening in his personal life, when he took the stage he rocked. I once saw him go up at a particularly slow open mic show, at a time when he was flat broke and uncertain of where he would be sleeping for the foreseeable future, and get a standing ovation! He will definitely be missed by those of us comedians who had the pleasure of sharing a stage with him. Rest in peace, my brother!
